Secondary School Principal
October 28, 2022
As we come to the end of Quarter 1, we are grateful for the return of these events and also just simply to have started the year all together in person. This quarter has been an important one. Our teachers have made the most of starting the year in person with our students. They have worked very diligently and purposefully to establish a fair and accurate picture of student achievement and needs and this will guide planning and instruction throughout the year.
On Friday, November 4, you will have access to your child’s Quarter 1 Report Card on Powerschool. This will be followed by Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, November 16. Instructions on how to access the report and schedule a conference time will follow soon and we encourage you to take this opportunity to discuss how we are planning to meet your child’s needs.
MAP Reports Available on Powerschool
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Student Progress Reports are now available on Powerschool. MAP assessments are online adaptive assessments that provide useful data in developing a fair and accurate assessment of a student’s academic achievement and growth. To ensure a fair and accurate assessment of a student’s academic growth and achievement, teachers combine MAP assessment data with all other student data that they have collected in classes. This combination of data informs teacher instruction in meeting the needs of each child. MAP assessment data is not the basis for a student’s academic grade as reported in ISY Report Cards.
Quarter 1 Report Cards and Conferences
Quarter 1 Student Reports Cards will be accessible on Powerschool on Friday, November 4.
The report cards will be followed up with Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, November 16. There will be no classes on this day.
Instructions on how to access reports and schedule a conference will be sent to you via email.
Cashless Payments
In addition to using the student ID cards for the turnstiles ISY is re-introducing our cashless payment system. Parents and students can add money to their account using their ID card and then simply swipe their card at the food vendors to make payments. A brief explanation of how to top up your card can be viewed here. Below is a practical demonstration of the system by one of our Elementary Students. The top up system went live on Monday 24th October. The system itself will go live on Tuesday November 1st.
Full Moon Day of Tazaungmone
In celebration of Full Moon Day of Tazaungmone, there will be no school on Monday, November 7.

Parent Association (PA) Notices
Many thanks to all the parents getting involved in the Parent Association. The PA are already busy with plans for Halloween, and International Day. Here’s a poster they made with some details about International Day. If you are organizing a country booth, please can you fill out this PA form.
International Day Cultural Show
During International Day there will be a cultural show in the evening. The Cultural Show is a chance to celebrate ISY’s student diversity and provide an opportunity for students to share dances, songs, or other acts connected to their culture. A form to sign up an act for the cultural show is here. Each performance should be no more than three minutes in length and should ideally involve more than one student.
