Learning is one of our school’s Strategic themes:
The International School Yangon (ISY) embodies a student centered learning program that encourages adaptation and innovation to meet the challenges of the future.
Our vision for Learning:
- ISY students are academically challenged and supported within a culturally responsive curriculum that addresses future global challenges as outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
- ISY teachers are capable and connected in their understanding of how ISY students learn. They have the expertise and autonomy to make responsive instructional decisions in order to best support the needs of their students.
- ISY teachers develop and implement inclusive instructional practices that are informed by student data and educational research to meet the needs of every ISY student.
- ISY students have an awareness of themselves as learners and are empowered and motivated to make choices and decisions that positively impact their learning throughout their lives.
- ISY students are able to connect and transfer their knowledge and skills to novel situations to meet the challenges of an uncertain future as agents for positive change in the world.
To achieve our vision for Learning, as a faculty, we need to be constantly learning. We learn from each other, we learn from our students, and we learn from experts who can add to the learning that we are doing together as a community.
This week, we were very fortunate to have Cathy Berger Kaye working with us. Cathy is a very well respected and highly sought after author and consultant on a diverse range of educational topics that include service learning, inclusive practices, and curriculum design.
Cathy visited our school in 2020 before the pandemic. We have worked together since then and this week we were able to work in person again. Cathy works with top international schools all over the world and she loves ISY. She loves our vision for learning and how we are working hard to make sure that every one of our students leave ISY prepared for the future. It is complex work but working with Cathy reminds us that it is good work and we are in a very privileged position to be able to positively impact the future of our students and all those who they will meet in their lifetime.

ISY’s Commitment to Child Protection and Safeguarding
At ISY, we take great pride in safeguarding our community, especially our students. We are committed to maintaining a comprehensive Child Protection Policy, which outlines the measures we have in place to protect students from physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. This policy, available on our website, details the strategies we employ to ensure student safety, including thorough recruitment checks, extensive training for all members of the school community, and clear expectations for staff behavior.
Our Child Protection Policy is aligned with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the 2019 Myanmar Child Rights Law. It is regularly reviewed and approved by the Board of Trustees and the Director to ensure that ISY remains at the forefront of best practices in safeguarding.
