Last week, I wrote about the pride we have for our sports teams and how they represent our ISY Chinthe Spirit in the way they compete. Again, our SEASAC Basketball, Touch Rugby and Tennis teams did us proud in their tournaments in Bangkok.

It can be hard to define our ISY Chinthe Spirit but there is a definite connection to our ISY Learner Attributes of Compassion, Collaboration, Communication, Courage, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Reflection. In competing and practicing, our student athletes provide us with many fine examples of these attributes in action. For a student’s perspective on the importance of the ISY Learner Attributes, please read this interview with our Girls Touch Rugby captain.

The ISY Learner Attributes will again be on display this Saturday and Sunday in our students’ performance of The Wizard of Oz (see the poster below for details). A lot of time and effort has gone into preparing for this performance and we are all looking forward to seeing our ISY students on stage.

Counselor Weekly Newsletter

Every week, Mr. A-G, our High School Conselor, provides our High School students with a weekly update. This update provides students with information about a variety of topics including college and university application processes.

The ISY Family Fun Fair is back! This event is organized by our Student Council and our Student Service Learning Groups.

As in the past, there will be lots of fun things to do including rides for the children and fun activities organized by our Student Service Learning Groups. There will also be a wide selection of food stalls and vendors who align with ISY’s strategic themes and commitment to environmental consciousness.

As you are having fun, you will learn all about our ISY students’ service learning initiatives and how you can help them be a force for positive change in the world. You will also be raising money for these service learning initiatives so they can continue their great work and our ISY community can continue to support our partner projects.

Second Hand Market – Please donate!

At the Family Fun Fair, a Second Hand Market will sell second hand clothing (all ages), books (all ages), and toys. All proceeds from the Second Hand Market will go to the ‘Chinthe Fund’ that supports our ISY Partner Projects (including Yangon Animal Shelter and Care to the Least Center Orphanage). And any items not sold will be donated to our ISY Partner Projects.

We would like to collect as many items as we can to sell at the Second Hand Market. Please donate gently used clothing, books, or toys to this great cause. You can make donations on the Front Steps. From this Monday, January 30 there will be baskets on the Front Steps to donate your clothing, books, and toys.

Service Learning Spotlight

The ISY Family Fun Fair is organized by our Student Councils and Service Learning Groups. In the lead up to the Fun Fair, we are spotlighting these groups to bring awareness to what they do and what they will be raising money for on the day.

You can read more about service learning at the ISY Family Fun Fair on our ISY website’s Service Learning page.

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Testing

From February 20 to March 3, student in Grades 2 to 9 will be sitting MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in Reading, Language Usage and Mathematics (and Science from Grade 4). MAP assessments are online adaptive assessments that provide useful data in developing a fair and accurate assessment of a student’s academic achievement and growth.

To ensure a fair and accurate assessment of a student’s academic growth and achievement, teachers combine MAP assessment data with all other student data that they have collected in the classroom. This combination of data informs teacher instruction in meeting the needs of each child. MAP assessment data is not the basis for a student’s academic grade as reported in Semester Report Cards.

SEASAC Sportsmanship Award

Congratulations to our Girls Touch Rugby team who earned the Sportsmanship Award at their SEASAC tournament. They earned the respect of the other teams and coaches with their ISY Chinthe Spirit on and off the field.
