February 17, 2022

Tomorrow sees the return of the ISY Family Fun Fair.

This is a student led event with many activities and games organized by our Student Service Learning Groups.

In designing their activities, the groups had three goals in mind – to create something fun, to raise money, and to bring awareness to what their group does in terms of service.

Over the last three weeks, this blog has spotlighted our Student Service Learning Groups and on Saturday you will be able to hear more from our students about what these groups do. So as you are handing over your coupons to dunk a teacher or sumo wrestle or one of the other fun activities, please ask our students about what cause your money is supporting.

Thank you for your support of Service Learning at ISY!

    Counselor Weekly Newsletter

Every week, Mr. A-G, our High School Conselor, provides our High School students with a weekly update. This update provides students with information about a variety of topics including college and university application processes.

We are delighted to invite you to the ISY Family Fun Fair happening this Saturday, February 18th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.

This event is brought to you by our Student Councils and our Student Service Learning Groups. All proceeds will go to support Service Learning at ISY and our Service Learning Project Partners through our newly created Chinthe Fund.

The entrance fee for each person is 5,000 kyat on the day. You can pay in cash at the gate on the day.

We will provide all sorts of entertainment to delight all ages, including a ferris wheel, a merry-go-round and a bouncy slide. Each of our Student Service Learning Groups will hold an event, such as inflatable sumo wrestling, a fake jail, a photobooth, face painting, dunk tank, and pie face.

All rides and activities will require coupons that you can buy at the fair itself.

We will have a variety of outside vendors who will be selling delicious vegetarian food and drink. Food and drink sales will be cash only and prices will vary depending on the menu items. We also have vendors who will be selling a selection of goods including some toys and games. These sales will also be cash only.

It may be a hot day, and we would like to remind you to bring a water bottle in an effort to reduce waste. There will be plenty of water stations. If you forget your water bottle, please check out our new Chinthe Zay store where you can buy ISY merchandise.

At around 5:30pm, the entertainment will start with interactive games, prizes, songs from ISY production of The Wizard of Oz, student singers and many other surprises. Prizes will be provided from our new Chinthe Zay.

We look forward to having you join us on Saturday!

    Service Learning Spotlight

The ISY Family Fun Fair is organized by our Student Councils and Service Learning Groups. In the lead up to the Fun Fair, we are spotlighting these groups to bring awareness to what they do and what they will be raising money for on the day.

You can read more about service learning at the ISY Family Fun Fair on our ISY website’s Service Learning page.

    The Wizard of Oz

We are so proud of all the Chinthes who made this production such an enjoyable success. The ISY Learner Attributes of Compassion, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, Courage (not just from our Lion!) and Reflection were all on show – on and off stage.

A lot of work needed to done behind the scenes and in the weeks before last weekend’s performances. Thank you to everyone who helped in so many different ways to make sure our students were able to experience the excitement and satisfaction of putting on a successful production. We are looking forward to the next one!

    Secondary School Art

Check out the newly launched Secondary School Art Facebook page.
They will be posting about all the excellent work they are doing so be sure to follow the page to see their great work.  Today there are some fantastic self-portraits to view from an 8th Grader.

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Testing

From February 20 to March 3, student in Grades 2 to 9 will be sitting MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments in Reading, Language Usage and Mathematics (and Science from Grade 4). MAP assessments are online adaptive assessments that provide useful data in developing a fair and accurate assessment of a student’s academic achievement and growth.

To ensure a fair and accurate assessment of a student’s academic growth and achievement, teachers combine MAP assessment data with all other student data that they have collected in the classroom. This combination of data informs teacher instruction in meeting the needs of each child. MAP assessment data is not the basis for a student’s academic grade as reported in Semester Report Cards.

    High School Basketball

Both our Girls and Boys High School Basketball Teams had good wins this week. Thank you to our teachers and supporters who come out to watch our sports teams play and take on extra jobs to make sure the students are able to do what they love.
