Jonathan O’Sullivan –  Athletics and Activities Coordinator

Dear Chinthes,
Last week was a first for ISY in athletics. On Saturday ISY had three mixed touch rugby teams playing in the same tournament. ISY had an elementary school team and two high school teams. Please read below for more details on how these teams played.
The Thingyan holiday is next week and this will affect our facility availability. Please read the “Facilities” section below for all the opening and closing times for our ISY facilities.
This week is the last week for after school activities.

Elementary School Athletics

Last Saturday ISY entered their first ever elementary school touch rugby team into a tournament. Touch rugby has been played at SEASAC competitions in the high school for some years now and has featured as an after school activity for the last two years. However, this is the first time ISY has had an official team in the elementary school.
The team was a mixed team and played three games. All their games were fast, fun and filled with challenges that the young athletes met with determination.
Well done to all our ISY elementary school athletes.

High School Athletics

Touch Rugby

Last Saturday ISY was able to enter two high school touch rugby teams into a local tournament. Touch rugby has been played at SEASAC competitions in the high school for some years now and has featured as an after school activity for the last two years. However, this is the first time ISY has had an official mixed team, let alone two teams!
The teams played several games throughout the day. They played with speed, determination and a willingness to learn and do the best they can. One of our teams ended up making the final!
Although we did come second place, the day was not about placings but strengthening touch rugby as a sport at ISY and Yangon. All the athletes should be proud of their efforts in representing ISY, the ISY Way and themselves.

Badminton

On Thursday and Friday last week, the ISY badminton team played in a city wide tournament with many other schools in Yangon. This was not a team event so our athletes were competing in singles and doubles competitions.
Although all our athletes represented ISY with pride and achieved success, these students won some final placings:

3rd Girls Singles, Maggie Class of 25
2nd Boys Doubles, Alex and Chris Class of 27
1st Girls Doubles, Phu Phu Class of 27 and Grace Class of 23

Well done to these athletes and to all our badminton players that competed in this tournament.

After School Activities

This week is the last week of after school activities for this session and the school year. The last day is today, 7th of April. The variety and range of activities for this session has been even better than the last. I am looking forward to the new school year to introduce the next session of after school activities.
