Jonathan O’Sullivan –  Athletics and Activities Coordinator

Dear Chinthes,

Our high school basketball teams secured second place in the Yangon Athletic Conference league last night. Please read below to see how their matches went this week.

Our middle school boys football team had a match against the ILBC International School on Wednesday. With the grade 6 students away on Chinthe Expeditions the squad was severely depleted. However, in true ISY spirit they played hard right to the end. Please read below for the match report.

Today, tomorrow and Sunday ISY is sending a sizable Yangon Model United Nations delegation to Yangon International School. Continue reading below for information and what this is and how MUN is becoming a mainstay at ISY.

    High School Athletics

On Tuesday ISY traveled to the International School Myanmar for girls and boys high school basketball. On Thursday ISY hosted ILBC International School.
On Tuesday, after a delay the boys played first. The game kicked off with both teams scoring one after the other, keeping things really close. Right up until the last 3 minutes, it was anybody’s game, with the scores super close – ISM even got ahead of ISY for a bit. But then, in those last few minutes, ISY just took off and ended up more than 10 points ahead. It was a really good, tight game where both teams gave it their all.

On Thursday at ISY the boys played second this time. The game between ISY and ILBC was great and kicked off right on schedule. ISY got to play almost all our players, and everyone scored on the court. We won by a lot, and in the very last second of the game, Ty hit a 3-pointer right at the buzzer. It was an exciting game and a really good one before the final match.

On Tuesday the ISY girls’ team had a hard time starting off to a slow start and could never quite catch the ISM team. But Thursday’s match up against ILBC was a real thriller with both teams trading the lead until the final minutes where the Chinthes defense prevented ILBC from scoring and the offense got a few key shots to drop for an excellent victory.

    Middle School Athletics

On Wednesday our boys middle school football team played ILBC International School at South Dagon field. With several players sick and the Grade 6 students on their Chinth expedition this would always be a tough assignment for our young footballers. ISY performed valiantly, showing grit and determination until the final whistle. Unfortunately the odds were stacked against us and we would lose 0-3 in the end. The MVP for the day was Demir (Grade 7).

    Yangon Model United Nationas

This year the Yangon Model United Nations will be held at Yangon International School.
Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. For example, a student may be assigned the United Kingdom and will have to solve global topics such as nuclear non-proliferation or climate change from the policies and perspectives of the United Kingdom.

Our ISY students are traveling to YIS as delegates, chairs and note passes. ISY have students from grade 6 to 12 participating in this three day conference. The conference will start tonight, continue for a full day on Saturday and then a half day on Sunday. We wish the students well for the whole three days.

Parents will be able to check their child(ren)’s ASA schedule on PowerSchool. They will also be able to check where and when the ASAs will be and who is the ASA supervisor. This information will be automatically updated as changes are made to the students’ ASA schedules.
