Southeast Asian Activities and Sport Conference (SEASAC) News

On Friday ILBC International School traveled to ISY for a football match. Once the game started it looked like an even match. Both teams opened their goal scoring accounts early on. After 10 minutes of the first half the score was locked at 1-1. Then ISY went to work and played the long game. This worked with a goal by the end of the first half to go into half time 2-1 in the lead. This is where ISY would stay as they were able to score another goal to win 3-1 in the end.

On Wednesday it was ISY’s turn to travel to South Dagon where ILBC’s home fields are. ILBC is a good side and it showed on Wednesday. They played a lot better on their home ground and in the end won the game 4-1. This will make our end of season tournament very interesting!

Middle School (MS) Athletics

Last Friday our middle school boys football team traveled to International School Myanmar (ISM) for their latest match. This game proved to be an exciting encounter with the final result still in contention until the final whistle.
ISY started strongly and scored two goals in the first half. If anyone thought this would end up being a high scoring ISY victory, they had another thing coming. In the second half ISM came roaring back and scored two goals of their own! This left the scores at 2-2 heading into the final quarter.
With only minutes to play ISY were able to secure victory with a well constructed goal. The game ended in a win for ISY 3-2.
The next matches will be played today, 17th of February, and then another match on the 22nd of February at ILBC International School.

High School (HS) Athletics

ISY’s high school basketballers traveled to the International School Myanmar on Tuesday for our return match of the Yangon Athletic Conference season. This would be a chance for the ISY boys to continue to polish their defense and moves and for the girls team to give ISM some payback for the last game they played at ISY.
The girls played first and things didn’t go to plan. ISM worked out to a 6 point lead and had a commanding lead at the end of the first quarter. However, ISY girls don’t give up and they worked hard for the rest of the game to reduce the lead to just two points with 1 minute remaining. The ball switched possession several times in the last minute with ISM shooting a late 3 pointer to extend the lead to 5. This was a game that could have gone either way. ISM is the best girls side in YAC and to run them close like that was a big plus for ISY. The end of season playoffs will be interesting.
The boys came into this game as heavy favorites but were made to work in the first quarter. They ended the quarter with an unconvincing 7-6 lead. They looked the best team but let ISM score but made scoring difficult for themselves. The second quarter things started to turn around and the boys started to extend their lead. The boys ran out winners in the end for a comfortable victory.
On Thursday ISY welcomed ILBC for the next HS basketball match.
The ISY girls wanted to show ILBC that they were a team not to be taken lightly. This game was a closely fought contest that would not be decided until the final siren sounded. ILBC were able to lead from the start but not extend it to any significant gap. At half time it was 8-11 to ILBC and the final score would be 21-25.
The boys had a better tie of things and were not tested in this game. They raced out to a 34-6 lead and finished the game comfortably at 59-15.
The teams will earn a well deserved rest with the next game on for a couple of weeks.
