Dear Chinthes,

Sport is well and truly back at ISY. Middle school basketball started this week and there is a game against ISM scheduled for next Friday. High school volleyball has started with a preseason tournament today and tomorrow at YIS. More information on these teams are below. Swim team tryouts were this week. The middle and high swimmers trialed on Thursday and the elementary school swimmers trialed today.

I would like to remind everyone that the ISY clinic will always be open if there is an athletic team training or playing on campus.

This week has been a full week of after school activities. It has been wonderful seeing the students looking excited while making their way to their respective activities. There is still time to sign up for activities if you haven’t already. Please continue reading below for more information.

There is a new booking form for using the school facilities. Everything you need to know about using the school facilities is included below.

After School Activities (ASA)

Today we finished our first week of after school activities. There was a lot of excitement in the air with students looking forward to trying things for the first time. There is a great mix of service learning, sports and arts activities. If your child is not signed up for and activity yet, please email the Athletics Office and we will help you find an activity your child will enjoy.
I ask that parents check their children’s ASA status. With a lot of movement in and out of ASAs it is a good idea to regularly check when and where your child’s ASAs are.

ASA times:
Elementary school: 2:20 – 3:05 PM
Secondary school: 2:40 – 3:25 PM

Middle School (MS) Athletics

Middle school basketball started this week on Wednesday and Friday. If you are a MS student and you are interested in playing it is not too late to join. Please join us at 3:30 on Wednesday and join in the practice.
The MS basketball teams will have their first game at 3:30, Friday the 9th of September against ISM at ISY. Yes, this will be a home game and our first chance to host athletics on ISY.
If you are interested in playing table tennis in the upcoming MS/HS Yangon Invitational Tournament on the 10th of September it is not too late to register. If you would like to play please fill out this form.

High School (HS) Athletics

Today we send our first competitive HS athletics team off to YIS for the preseason Citywide Yangon Invitational Volleyball Tournament. I am sure you will all join me in wishing them well for today and tomorrow. I am sure they will represent ISY with pride! Parents of our volleyball teams are most welcome to go and support our teams at YIS.
The Varsity volleyball teams will also start their Yangon Athletic Conference (YAC) with a game against YIS at YIS on Friday, the 9th of September.
If you are interested in playing table tennis in the upcoming MS/HS Yangon Invitational Tournament on the 10th of September it is not too late to register. If you would like to play please fill out this form.
The soccer season is getting closer! A soccer sign-up sheet for girls and boys was placed at the front of the gym today and will be up until Wednesday. If a HS student is interested in playing soccer for ISY they should put their name down on the list. Information for trials and training will follow soon.

Swim Team (Elementary, MS and HS)

Congratulations to all the elementary, middle and high school students that triled for the swim team. You will be informed if you made the team by Monday evening.
Middle and high school swim team will start on Wednesday at 3:30 and the elementary school swim team will start on Friday at 2:30.

Covid-19 Temporary Measures – August 2022

  • Mask wearing indoors while with other people will be mandatory.  All students will be required to wear a mask indoors and this includes the gym.  The exceptions are the pool and while eating.
  • Students will be encouraged to eat outdoors as much as possible.  Students will be allowed to eat indoors and in the cafeteria for now but will be encouraged to socially distance while eating.
  • Classrooms at ISY will be well ventilated with doors and windows open as much as possible.
  • Students will be encouraged to wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer regularly and we ask that students keep up this practice at home.
  • Covid-19 test kits will be sent home with students every Friday (2 per student).  We ask everyone to test on Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
  • If a student tests positive we ask that you inform the ISY Clinic as soon as possible to get advice on how long the student should remain at home (clinic@isyedu.org).  We will continue to inform you of the first cases of Covid if they occur in your Grade or if a student’s teacher has a suspected case.
  • If a student has flu like symptoms (fever, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, muscle/joint aches, tiredness) please keep them at home, test them using a rapid test kit and monitor them closely.
