Elementary Update – November 3rd

Sandy Sheppard, Elementary School Principal

Dear Parents,

My apologies for the late blog post this week. I have been at a conference all week and have just returned. The conference was the EARCOS Leadership Conference. This coming week we have Linda Henke a Reggio Emilia Early Years expert in school all week working with our early years teams. We also have our school architect, Alan Higgs with us for three days. He will be meeting with students in Grade 3,4 and 5, teachers, the Board and parents. The 11th and 12th will be a holiday for students, the faculty will be attending Adaptive Schools training. There is important information on progress reports and the upcoming parent conferences in this blog.

PROGRESS REPORTS

Our first new Progress Reports will be going home on the 8th of November. Please see the attachment for a guide on the new reports.

PARENT CONFERENCES

Parent conferences will take place all day on the 21st of November. Sign up will go out the week before. Meetings are 15 minutes long. They start at 9:00 am and finish at 5:30 PM. Specialist teachers are available on that day in the Cafeteria for drop in meetings. We look forward to seeing you all at the conferences.

ARCHITECT VISIT

This week we are fortunate to have the Architect Alan Higgs with us for three days.  During this time he will be meeting with the administration and students and would also like to meet with parents to update us on the progress of the planning of a new building.
In order to give as many parents as possible the opportunity to meet with him and to accommodate his busy schedule we have decided to use the existing parent meeting time this week given by the counselors entitled ‘Raising Children in a Stress-free World’ and change it to the Architect’s Meeting.  We will reschedule the counselors’ meeting and let you know the new date later this week.
To confirm, the Architect Meeting time will be Tuesday, Nov 5th, 5:30 PM in the Cafeteria.  This has also been changed on the main calendar.  We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

REGGIO SPECIALIST – Linda Henke

You are invited to attend a session with our visiting specialist, Linda Henke from 8:00 to 8:30 on November the 6th. This will be a session on  Reggio Emilia early years practices. See the invitation below.
