BACK TO SCHOOL

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Back-to-School Night. We believe that fostering a strong partnership between parents and teachers is crucial for a successful academic journey. This event is designed to provide you with insights into the broader aspects of our school’s curriculum and educational approach, as well as an opportunity to connect with the teaching staff.

We understand that there might be questions about what this event entails, and we would like to clarify its purpose. The Back-to-School Night is not primarily intended for obtaining specific information about individual students. Instead, it aims to achieve the following:

  • Curriculum and Course Overviews: During the evening, you will gain an understanding of our curriculum and insights into your child’s classes – including what is taught and how it is taught and assessed.
  • Classroom Environment: You will get the chance to familiarize yourself with the classroom environment, resources, and tools that will aid your child’s learning journey. While you won’t receive personalized details about your child, you will have a better understanding of the learning spaces they will be in.
  • Teacher-Parent Interaction: Our teaching staff is dedicated to your child’s academic success. This event provides an opportunity for you to meet and connect with teachers, enabling you to establish an initial rapport and understanding that will benefit both your child and the teacher-student partnership.

Parental Engagement: We encourage open lines of communication between school and home. The Back-to-School Night allows you to ask general questions about the academic year, school policies, and expectations, fostering a sense of involvement in your child’s education.

Please note that if you have specific concerns or inquiries about your child’s individual progress or needs, we encourage you to reach out to the respective teacher through scheduled parent-teacher conferences or emails. These dedicated interactions are better suited for addressing personalized matters.

There will be an opportunity at the Back to School Night to visit. You can also meet our new Librarian Mrs. Kris Feller, and our new Librarian Assistant Mrs. Sandhya. They are ready to welcome you into the Library.

The ISY Parent Association (PA)

The ISY Parent Association will have its first general meeting on the 4th of September at 8:30 AM in the Multi-Purpose Room in Block C. All parents are invited.

This is an opportunity to find out how you can support the school. You will also have the wonderful opportunity to join one of many PA committees. These include our International Day, Events, Service Learning, and Teacher Appreciation committees.

You can find out more information about the work the Parent Association does at the meeting. If you would like to know more beforehand the Parent Association, please get in touch with the school office.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Nourish Meal Plan

The food on offer at ISY at both Nourish and Gusto plays a crucial role in students’ overall health, well-being, and academic performance. We want to create a healthy eating culture that promotes nutritious food choices, provides access to balanced meals, and aligns food and nutrition practices with classroom education. Here are a few key points to consider why we are doing this:

One of our Strategic Themes at The International School Yangon is ‘Sustainability’, where students cultivate sustainability through a focus on Service Learning and The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  At ISY we want to be part of the environmental drive to offer students a healthy, nutritious, plant-based diet that contributes towards lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Please view our latest blog post on the impact of food on the environment and the Nourish Ordering Procedures guide which shows you more information about how to order your child’s lunch from Nourish.

The current Nourish meal plan items are available to order.  Parents must order meals weekly in advance, by 5 p.m. every Thursday through PowerSchool. The current Nourish meal plan items will then change after each four weekly cycle with a new set meal plan in place from Monday, 18th September.

After School Activities (ASAs)

As a reminder, ASAs commence on Monday, 28th August.  Most Elementary activities start at 2:20 p.m. and end at 3:05 p.m.  You may check the confirmed after-school activities lists that students have successfully registered for in PowerSchool.  Elementary Students will meet after school outside the Elementary School’s main building, and the ASA instructors will pick them up from there.  Here is the latest blog from our athletics office.

Watch this space in future blogs for announcements from our wonderful school counselor Ms Patty.
