Connection
Mike Simpson, Elementary School Principal
18 September 2020
I have been thinking a lot about connection lately and how it important it is for all of us to feel connected to something bigger than themselves – like ISY.
In this time of social distancing, closed campuses, and closed airports, it can feel that we are not as connected to our friends, our teachers, our colleagues, and even our families. As a compassionate school, we feel this too and feedback from our families would suggest that this is our community’s greatest challenge as we continue to move forward online. There are obvious challenges to staying connected online and as a school we will continue to think of creative ways to develop and maintain these connections – around learning and between people.
As always, your feedback is appreciated as to how we can creatively meet the needs of your children. Please provide this feedback through our online learning surveys or feel free to contact me directly at msimpson@isyedu.org.
Kind regards,
Mike

Come join the counselors and principals as we give a quick update on child protection at ISY then focus the rest of the time on supporting your children and helping you get connected with other ISY parents through a couple fun activities! A Zoom link will be provided next week.
CONNECTION: BRAVING THE WILDERNESS
As a parent of two children, a 12 year old and a six year old, I often think about how important it is for them to feel that they are connected to others and belong somewhere. I think many families also think about this so I thought I would share what I got out of Dr. Brown’s book. Please click here to read my post.

Every lesson needs to start somewhere but it does not need to end there. By using one culture or history as a starting point, a lesson can still be inclusive of all of the cultures and histories in a class.
