Secondary Principal’s Blog

January 31, 2020, Update

Christina Powers, Secondary School Principal

On Thursday reports were made available through PowerSchool.  Please take the time to review your child’s progress. Remember to also review the habits for learning as these habits, sooner or later, will impact a student’s ability to be successful. The more we work together to establish good habits the better.  If you have questions or concerns, please schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher.

Coronavirus: Secondary students will be meeting with members of our clinic to review safeguarding methods that will help prevent the spread of germs. In addition, students are being reminded that they are to remain home if they are sick. This is difficult especially for our motivated students; however, it is essential that this is enforced. Teachers will work with students to support their learning while they are recovering at home. Students who have flu or fever symptoms will be sent to the clinic and will be sent home if a fever is detected.

High School Semi dance “A Trip to the Moon” will take place at the SEEDS Restaurant & Lounge on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 6:00-8:30 PM. Tickets will not be sold at the door. All school rules apply to this event. Students who attend will not be permitted to leave the event early nor will they be allowed to enter and exit the event.

Middle School Masquerade Dance: February 14 from 6:15-8:00 PM the middle school stucco will be hosting a dance on the ISY campus. Tickets for this event can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. 5,000 for a regular ticket and 15,000 for a VIP ticket, which includes a buffet. Regular ticket holders will be able to buy pizza etc. as usual.

International day will take place on Sat, February 15 at ISY. This is an all-school event that celebrates culture, diversity and the global community at ISY.  Students should arrive in the SAS gym at 3:15. The event will begin at 4:00 PM with the parade of Nations and the cultural show will begin at 5:30 PM.

UWS school in Wan Kaung Village: This past week 9 ISY students visited the UWS school in Wan Kaung Village. This experience allowed our students to investigate the needs of the school and students, as well as develop connections and understanding. Look out for more information on this experience.  To better understand ISY’s service-learning journey see the recent blog from Cathryn Berger.
