Thank you!

June 9, 2023

The end of the year is a time for reflection. During our High School Awards Ceremony, we reflected on the focus, effort, and belief it takes to be successful.

We have had a successful year. Through the focus, effort, and belief of many people, we experienced a lot of success with the return in full of events like International Day, Family Fun Fair and the ISY Olympiad, the return of full sporting competitions and travel, a successful MUN conference, a successful production of the Wizard of Oz, and these are just some things that happened outside of the classroom. It took a lot of focus, effort, and belief from a lot of people to make these things happen.

We are very lucky to be surrounded and supported by good people at ISY. Security guards, custodians, gardeners, maintenance workers, clinicians, secretaries and administrative staff, drivers, our leadership team, our Board of Trustees, teachers, teaching assistants, parents, and students all play a very important part in the success of our school. Thank you to all!

I hope you all have a restful break and I look forward to seeing most of you next year. If you are moving on from ISY, we wish you the very best and we thank you for the contribution that you have made to our school.

Middle School iMPACT Festival

Thank you for all the positve feedback we have had about Tuesday’s Middle School iMPACT Festival. Our students developed and shared some very well thought out plans to address real issues around the sustainable consumption of food, fashion, and media. Some of these plans will be implemented next year at ISY.

New Secondary School Schedule

Next year, we will be using a new Secondary School schedule.

The new schedule has been developed to provide more teaching time for core curriculum subjects such as Mathematics, English, Science, and World Studies in the High School and more teaching time for all Higher Level IB Diploma courses.

In addition, the new schedule allows for more choice in High School elective courses with Design Technology & Computer Science and Music being offered in addition to Visual Art, Film & Photography, and Fitness.

Today, we explained the new schedule to next year’s High School students.

Classes will still start at 8:30am and finish at 2:30pm. The exception is that on Fridays, Grade 12 students will start Theory of Knowledge classes at 8:00am.

The High School Schedule will now be a 5 day, Monday to Friday schedule and no longer a Day 1 / Day 2 schedule.

There will be five 60 minute periods in a day (instead of four 75 minute periods). The schedule also provides for double periods of 120 minutes. Importantly, extra periods have been scheduled for all Grade 11 and 12 Higher Level IB Diploma courses.

This promises to be a very positive change for teaching and learning at ISY. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
