Happy Tazaungtaing!

International Day was a great success. Click here to watch a short video to celebrate such a fun day. A big thank you to our Parent Association and to all of our parents who ran a country booth, organized a dance, donated a raffle prize, the list goes on. And, as always, thank you to our faculty and staff who supported behind the scenes. The set up and tidy up for an event like this are big jobs and thank you to our wonderful custodians and maintenance team who do them expertly.

This is my favorite photo from International Day. It is our Class of 2024 after their traditional Indian dance. It was a fitting finale to a great day.

Chinthe Expeditions Update

As we shared with you last week, the expeditions we had planned for different regions of Myanmar have been relocated to Chiang Mai, Thailand.

It is our intention that Chinthe Expeditions will return to Myanmar next school year and we are planning for this. For now, Chiang Mai is a reliable option in uncertain times that ensures that all Secondary School students get to experience a ‘Week Without Walls’ experience that they have not had since the pandemic.

We are very pleased to confirm that all of this year’s Chinthe Expeditions will be facilitated by the Traidhos Visiting Schools Program (VSP) in Chiang Mai. We partnered with VSP before the pandemic in providing Week Without Walls experiences for our students. We are very pleased to be working with them again.

VSP will work with ISY teachers to create, support, and supervise rich service, cultural, and adventure experiences for our students. Please click on the following links to get a sense of the fantastic location and facilities that we have access to in partnership with VSP:

Parents will have now received an email to confirm the dates of their child’s grade level Chinthe Expedition.

More specific details about the expedition will follow next week, including teacher chaperones, flight details, required documentation, a packing list, and a request for medical, dietary and any other information that is important for us to know about your child. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

While we would like to be doing this in our host country, we are very happy to be able to provide this opportunity for our students. They will love it!

December Appreciation

Every December at ISY, we come together as a community to show our gratitude towards our custodians, maintenance staff, security team, administrative and instructional staff, and all other staff members who help make our school special. This year, we would like to present our staff with longyis from our ISY community as a sign of appreciation, thanks and respect.

One longyi will cost 15000 kyats and donations can be made in 3 ways:

  1. Online Cashless Donation using these instructions.
  2. In person at the Chinthe Zay Store or at the Business Office.
  3. Instead of cash, new longyis can also be donated by leaving them on the front steps.

The donation deadline is Thursday, November 31, 2023.

Kind Regards,

High School Student Council (STUCO)

PERFORMANCE POETS VISIT

ISY Welcomes Performance Poets Sara Holbrook and Michael Salinger (November 24 – December 1)

ISY’s visiting authors started off their five-day extravaganza today with awesome live poetry performances for each division of the school. They’ll be bringing that writing magic to our classrooms next week when they lead poetry workshops for all students. Parents are welcome to join in the fun as well by attending Family Poetry Afternoon on November 30th. Please look for the flyer from the Elementary Office in order to sign up. Want to have one of their books personally autographed? Bring 25,000 MMK to the library during school hours – limited copies available.
