Service Learning – On the Right Track
Service learning is really beginning to take shape at ISY. Students are becoming more and more familiar with the 5 stages of service learning which are: Investigation, Preparation, Action, Reflection, and Demonstration.

Purpose, Process, Progress, a reflection on curriculum and learning at ISY
In dictionaries, curriculum is often defined as the subjects comprising a course of study in a school or college. In this sense, ISY’s curriculum is very similar, if not identical, to other well established, high performing international schools around the world.

Dear all, Another busy week here in the Elementary School. This week Grade 5 went on a field trip, we had a Math evening for parents and PreK parents organized a celebration for the upcoming special Thidingyut Celebration.

Dear Parents, This weekend the campus will be full of life with our middle school basketball tournament. Followed by our high school volleyball tournament on Monday and Tuesday. Please join us in cheering on our Chinthes.
Elementary Update September 27
The teachers enjoyed the Compassion Conference on Friday. They were able to learn not only new ideas but be inspired by our keynote speaker, Wilma Derksen. I hope that many of you were also able to attend Wilma’s parent talk this week.
Junior World Math Competition
This past July, 4 ISY students, Steven, Haein, Gautam, and Crystal [Class of 2022] headed to Melbourne, Australia to compete in the Junior World Math Competition for the first time in ISY history.

Elementary School Blog- Sept 13
It seemed that the rain this week purposely chose to come down at break and dismissal times. The rain never hampers our fun here at ISY though and in between the rain we had lots of creative fun outdoors this week (see pictures below).

ISY Flood Drive 2019
The Community in Action service learning group is having a flood drive, where materials including; soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mosquito nets, blankets and basic English and Burmese books are to be collected school-wide.
Compassion Conference
ISY will be hosting a ‘Compassion Conference’ as part of a professional development program for teachers. In line with ISY’s mission that we are a community of compassionate global citizens, compassion is a very important topic at ISY.

MS Boys & Girls Basketball
It was great to get our Middle School Basketball season rolling this past Friday night, September 6th. The girls’ A&B teams played at home while the boys’ teams traveled to ILBC for their season opener.

Community Education
The philosophy of ISY is to be both a school and a community center for its families and faculty. By offering activities and courses for adults, we are aligning with ISY’s vision of developing lifelong learners. With that in mind, we are excited to announce a few opportunities for Community Education this fall.

September 6 Update
Next week, we will start MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing in the Secondary School (Grades 6 to 9). MAP assessments are online adaptive assessments that provide useful data in developing a fair and accurate assessment of a student’s academic achievement and growth.

Canvas Mural
One of ISY’s after school activities is a group called Canvas who meet up every week and engage in extra-curricular art activities led by the Secondary Art teacher – Mr. Nichols.
UWS Fact Finding Mission

Happy Thingyan
